Purpose & Core Values

Our Mission - Growing as a Community of Christ: "Inspire, embrace and send."

Our mission statement embodies the three historic purposes of the church. These purposes are amplified by our core values:

  • We need Jesus
  • We need each other
  • We serve a world in need.

Core Beliefs

As an interdependent congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) we celebrate the core beliefs of our denomination.

For more information on our beliefs, please visit the ELCA Website

At Atonement we encourage conversation from diverse viewpoints toward faithful living and emphasize these core beliefs;

  • Faith is formed through the study of the Bible, our Christian tradition and our human experience
  • We are saved by God’s grace, an unearned gift
  • We are led by the Spirit; everyone is called to serve others

Our History

Atonement was organized by the American Lutheran Church in 1962 at our former site next to "Bushy’s", on Janesville road.

In 2008 we moved ½ mile away to our current location on Martin Drive. This move has allowed us to more fully accomplish our mission to multiply ministry and "grow in Christ in every way."
